Our Farm

Our family-run farm has been in the family for nearly 100 years and includes 240 acres of grassland. We manage our land and our livestock for sustainable productivity and believe that the conservation of wildlife and the environment is a big part of our job as farmers! Our main fertiliser is farmyard manure and we control weeds by cutting, topping and spot spraying where possible. We also have 70 acres of woodland which receives minimal interference and is a haven for a variety of wildlife. The farm centres around a large lake which was created when a dam was built across the brook in 1935, and we also have many smaller ponds across the farm providing a fantastic habitat for a variety of creatures.

We believe that sustainably grazing our farmland is the key to ensuring that we protect it for future generations. We graze our farm with our Dexter cattle and breeds of native sheep.
Our pride and joy are our herd of pedigree Dexter cows, which we have been breeding for over 40 years. Our Dexter beef is sold in our popular beef boxes, available for collection direct from the farm.
We also have a flock of 300 commercial sheep which we breed from to produce our lamb, hogget (lamb grazed an extra Spring to mature) and mutton. We also introduced a small flock of rare breed Portland ewes in 2000.
We have a friendly DIY Livery with boxes for 17 horses, a sand school, summer and winter turnouts and facilities for customer only Toll Rides.

Livery

We host a friendly DIY livery with access to woodland rides.
Our livery boxes for 18 horses or ponies are located in the attractive farm yard at Butterbox Farm. Horses have access to winter and summer turnout, a sand school, and riding over fields and woods

The boxes vary from modern American-style boxes fitted into a large span shed to loose boxes in a range of traditional farm buildings.  We have a large barn which provides ample storage for hay, bedding and feed. We also have the availability of a separate isolation box.
We provide turnout in winter and summer paddocks. These are cross-grazed by cattle to maintain the quality of the grass and to help to minimise the worm burden.

We have a network of customer Toll Rides over the farm, including tracks through our extensive woodlands.  Chailey Common provides an even greater variety of riding, and is only a short walk up the road.
